Culture
Thoughts on philosophy, society, customs, institutions, art, and the culture we inherit and create. Culture is the collection of things we inherit, invent, practise, and pass on: manners and rituals, institutions and traditions, art and aesthetics, dress, ceremony, hospitality, language, and the thousand conventions we don’t always notice. It is how we turn living together into a shared way of life. Some of these essays are my thoughts on the good, the bad, and the ugly; on what matters and what doesn’t; arguments for preservation and arguments for change. Others are simply observations on things I find interesting.
