Tabletop roleplaying, homebrew rules, and communities worth knowing.

Roleplaying is the act of being a character in a world. I’ve played and run roleplaying games for more than half my life – I enjoy the meeting of rules, improvisation, world-building, escapism, and the social life around the table.

This page collects homebrew rules, related projects, and a few communities that have been important to that part of my life.

Communities

  • Phoenix Roleplaying, a play-by-post roleplaying forum for which I remain technical custodian; read more about the project.
  • Grand Edinburgh Adventure Society, better known as GEAS: the University of Edinburgh roleplaying society.
  • ORC Edinburgh, or Open Roleplaying Community Edinburgh, for gamers who are not students.
  • Conpulsion, Scotland’s oldest gaming convention and, during my years in Edinburgh, the country’s largest. I went from volunteer to committee member to director, serving in that last role for three years.
